09/07/2008I am SO disappointed to learn the Brennan's is leaving it's historic location to make way for condos!!! What a shame. They will reopen in the crappy building that is located behind them right now. UGH! What a pity. As it stands, Brennan's has an awesome bar with a great selection of beers on tap...casual atmosphere...large wrap around bar in center of large restaurant where you line up for roast beef, corned beef, turkey etc with all the trimmings. I think that the relocation is a big mistake...

09/07/2008I got a kick out of the fact that on US Independence Day I was entering Tikal Billiards Bar on Mission Street which is owned by an El Salvadorian (Maria), is named after the largest of the ancient ruined cities of the Maya civilization located in Guatemala and the guy sitting next to me (Gabriel) is Mexican. We were celebrating Independence Day by drinking beers, playing pool and chillin.
Tikal was a major cultural and population center for the Maya civilization and so it is appropriate that this bar had its own culture and a very interesting population.
Culture: Tikal is family owned and operated. Maria has owned the bar for over 21 years and bartends it with her daughter, Jessica, as her other daughter managed some of the bar back duties.

09/07/2008This place sucks for multiple reasons. I bought a saree for my wife the other day. I dint realize that I should bargain before I buy any thing here. Anywayz, I told the dark looking older dude with a gortee that my wife may not like it and I may have to return it. He was all happy when he sold me the over priced saree. So when my wife dint like the saree, we came back to exchange it to something else. This dude is now all mad. He kept telling me no refunds or exchanges. We had to return home with same saree. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. There are lot of other nice shops in the vicinity. Check them out....BE WARNED about these idiots.

09/07/2008I absolutely love going to Kim's Natural Nails. It's not a big and fancy nail salon, but getting your acrylic nails done here is a must. Truc, who owns the salon, along with his wife, Wendy, does a fantastic job. He is very methodical and particular, leaving your nails looking great. I get more compliments on my nails with Kim's than any other nail salon in Mill Valley (and believe me, I've tried them all). The prices are totally reasonable and unlike other places' acrylic fills, his last the whole two weeks, even when I play sports 3-4 times a week. Truc has also been doing my Mom's nails for the past 8 years and she loves them as well.
Wendy does all of the mani/pedis and the job is satisfactory. They have a large massage chair, which is nice, and the normal spa pedicure ammenities. I love hot stone and Japanese pedis so I usually go elsewhere, but you can definitely get a nice pedicure here.
Overall, I would easily recommend Kim's for acrylics and if you're looking for a simple, straightforward pedicure. They're only open Monday-Saturday, but it's pretty easy to get an appointment.

09/07/2008This is another pho restaurant, the same one as the one on 19th and Irving. It's funny how the rice plates with shrimp cakes is a lot more than the one on Irving. It makes Irving look cheap! Basically the same food as Irving, which is pretty good. The place is also bigger than Irving, service is about the same.

09/07/2008Ya know, I was going to write a review ripping this place. A few of us went to this bar yesterday and definitely won't go back. That said, I'll try to objective.
On paper, it looks good. Irish pub...cool. Smoking patio...great. Tons of TVs...tell me more. Lots of seats...sign me up.
In reality, it is a good concept that has been poorly executed. The major flaw is the staff. Unknowledgable, condescending and unfriendly are words that fit.
I'm sure that fun can be had there by some, but perhaps it's just not my style of bar.
Lastly, if possible, avoid the bartender that looks like a euro-trash Joan Jett. She is worthless, but makes up for it by being incompetent.

09/07/2008Happened to drop in spontaneously last Friday at 7:30p with friends and there were spots at the communal table so grabbed those. We had some watermelon starters that tasted as if they had been dipped in fish sauce. Had allergic reaction afterwards. S had the burger & fries; N had a crostini and salad; I had the lima beans & fries. The food was ok though N preferred to have regular bread over crostini with her dip and to tell you the truth, I didn't enjoy the lima beans b/c the dish smelled like pizza (too cheesy for me). Drink wise, N had two "Old Cubano's" which apparently were yummy.
What really impressed me were two things:
1. Service: Eric, our server (cute with his rectangular glasses and brown hair falling over one eye) was overburdened by having the responsibility of the entire communal table AND single front tables (by 8:30p it was packed). Despite this, he was CONSTANTLY patient, cheerful and courteous. I had originally ordered a broccoli dish but changed my mind when he recommended the lima beans. The food took over an hour to arrive and when it did, I was served broccoli instead of lima beans. I spoke to Eric and he told me that the broccoli was on the house and that the lima beans will follow asap. Very nice of him. Despite the crowd, Eric checked on us several times to ask how we were doing.
2. Bathrooms: There were TWO individual rooms for both men and women's (total of four) and they were clean at the beginning of our night and clean at the end of our night.
Final impressions: Good place to have easy conversation with friends. Generous portions. Reasonable prices. I've been eating at organic restaurants (Delfina, Camino, Canteen, Bar Jules) lately so perhaps that has affected my palate. I would return again and tell the server up front that I was allergic to seafood, spicy food so would hopefully avoid the severe attack of itching afterwards.

09/07/2008WOW! This place was amazing! HUGE portions and a big selection too. Extra points for the menu's user-friendly organization (lots of distinct categories with options in each). This is my new go-to for weekend breakfast!
I got here at about 9:30 a.m. on a Sunday and there was already a wait, albeit a small one, so - as pointed out by other Yelpers - be prepared to wait a bit. The wait is well worth it, though.
I had the California Benedict (bacon, avocado and tomato) with spinach added. It came with 2 piles o' Benedict goodness and a ginormous side of hash browns. I ended up taking half of it home and left completely stuffed. The prices are very reasonable too. Service was friendly and as prompt and attentive as can be expected when the place is full of hungry patrons. Highly recommended!

09/07/2008Can't say enough good things about Linda and Peter and their beautiful collection of handmade carpets. We had been searching for a handmade tribal carpet for weeks both online and at conventional and specialty stores in San Francisco. We were about to give up when we found Linda's Rug House online. She responded promptly to my email request, sending several photos that matched our desired size and style. I went to her house and was pleased to find several possible winners and her willingness to let me take them home and try them out. Her prices are more than fair and her knowledge and affection for the carpets are a bonus to the buying experience. The outcome is that we bought two instead of one and I feel myself getting addicted to these pieces of art. I'm sure I'll be back for more.

09/07/2008It was actually my first time at Blondie's, my friends and I were starving and wanted to go here before shopping so we stopped by here. When we came in, it was REALLY hot, hotter then it already was outside. They
seriously need some AC on the top level so that's a minus. The guy at the cash register was really rude and cranky probably because he was working at a pizza place in all that heat.. but still so that's another minus.
I ordered with my friend, I got a Hawaiian and she got chicken pesto. It was a decent price for a big slice of pizza so that's a plus. The tables were all downstairs. When I first got in I thought the seatings would kind of suck but it actually looked kind of nice down there and defitnetly cooler downstairs. The pizza was actually pretty good and the place isn't filled with little kids but with maybe other people around our age, some adults, and a family here and there. I'm planning to come back with my friends to try some new items on the menu so I'll be back to rate it again. (:

09/07/2008I've been to this location a couple times before & had a good experience - good food & services. My husband & I went on Friday night with a large group and it was bad...particularly for my husband. He ordered the kobe burger...when he bit into it, it was RAW. I don't mean rare, I really mean raw. The waitress saw it & agreed (pretty hard for her not to agree) and took it back. It came back the second time, he bit into it, and it was still raw...the exact same. Sent it back the 3rd time (by the this time, everyone at our table was done eating & husband didn't even want the damn burger) and when it came out, he lifted the bun up and it was basically ground beef. The had been 'trying' to re-cook the same patty, so by this time it had been cut into so many times that it was pieces! The waitress agreed (sort of) and said she would have a new one made - to-go. At this point, even the to-go burger wasn't going to be eaten by us....you've all seen those behind the scenes shows and/or movies that show what cooks really do to your food when you send it back. Anyway, it was a bad experience. Good thing the over priced cheesecake is good. Won't be going back here for a while.

09/07/2008Shopping and buying and alterations and pickup at La Boutique were an all around great experience. Hilda is the biggest sweetheart (which is how she will address you) and made everything so much fun. She was so helpful in the process of picking out the dress, and when i tried on the dress i ended up buying, she knew the second i had it on that it was "the one." She made alterations so easy- I only had to go for 1 set, the second time i tried on my actual dress it was perfect. Also, her prices are SO reasonable. I found the same Pronovias dress at Trudy's for $500 more! The shop is a typical Gift Center stall, so don't expect to twirl around on a pedestal in luxuriuos digs. But I think this is why Hilda's brides tend to be so nice- i made about 3 friends in my various visits there. Thanks, Hilda, for such a great wedding vendor experience.

09/07/2008The woman who owns this place is absolutely delightful. The service is good/attentive and the food, once you've honed in on something they're really good at, is very good.
I recommend the crispy rice salad, Thai toast, the Siamese chicken rolls, and the gai yang. Keep in mind I don't like the Thai stuff that smells like B.O., so you're on your own for the potted stinky items.

09/07/2008This place is located close to Golden Gate Park in a residential neighborhood. Parking is on the street and can be difficult to find. Anyway, about the restaurant it is a really casual place that could use an interior update. It is noisy and crowded, HOWEVER, the food is very tasty and is incredibly CHEAP. Probably the most bang for your buck of any dim sum restaurant around. So you will have to put up with painfully slow service in a cramped atmosphere, but go because you can try so many dishes at these prices...yum!

09/07/2008I've been to the Knockout once before on a Saturday afternoon a couple months back. My only recollection of the place was having too many beers, playing a lot of pool and then, as day turned into night, someone offering me a warm, fresh donut. At the time, I had no idea what to make of it but I welcomed the nourishment and washed it down with a beer -delicious, huh? About the same time I finished my donut dinner, a band called the Donuts Disco (classic disco, mutant disco, italo, cosmic, dutch electro old school hip hop and house) took the stage.
This time I made my way through the Knockout's dark doorway and wondered how my evening would compare to last time. And, well, it ended up about the same.

09/07/2008I ended up coming here last night with my boy-crazy friend. Yes yes...I am a hag. We'd trooped around a bit, started off at Crogan's, stopped off at Spoon, glanced at Betty's and finally ended up here. With a 5 dollar cover we shrugged and wandered inside.
The music was very 80's and very plastic disatser. Britney, "We are family", Backstreet Boys...etc.
I didn't have any drinks, but the music was so cutesy and we had such a fun time that I'd come back.

Updated - 09/07/2008dropped in before noon for a no frills lunch special. only one table here so service wasn't a problem. had the 3,99 onion pork chop w/ rice , choice of coffee or tea. i choose coffee. this was a strange drink. didn't see how it was made. it came premixed with cream and sugar. tasted ok but not great
the entree was 2 slices of thin slieced pork chop, thinly breaded.. it was a brown gravy which enabled me to finish all the rice. i wasn't disappointed cuz i wasn't expecting much. this is a good alternative when one (me) doesn't know what one wants to eat. (the fish is next for me w/ tea).
7 entrees (chicken, fish, beef brisket noodles) available 11-6.

09/07/2008Maybe my timing is bad. Maybe because I'm a weekend coffee drinker. Everytime I come here for a Venti Americano with room, I feel like I'm in Fast And The Furious. When I come in the day, the parking lot is loaded with sport bikes and owners with the the flashy motorcycle gear. On some nights, it's like an import car show minus the hot petite models. Parking can be a bitch sometimes but it's wayyyy better than Starbucks in Westlake. The one thing I like about Starbucks is the service and the coffee is pretty consistent. They have guidelines. It's pretty much the same every time I go. This specific location gets pretty busy though. Fortunately, I'm a to go drinker. If I was a sit in drinker, I can imagine that seating can be difficult with all the students hogging up the tables doing homework.

09/07/2008Wonderfully positioned as a local greasy spoon in the hey day of feathered hair and Camaros, one look at the hostess and you immediately think "hey, don't I recognize you from behind the counter of the bowling alley, from when I was 12?! You haven't changed a bit! Feathered hair is the new black!" when entering.
So, what's not to like?
Everything after that first paragraph, that's what.
Tough tough tough, dry, dry, dry meats, food overcooked, yet amazingly COLD when the kitchen can't be more than 50 feet away. Four of us ordered four different items, not one of them either good or "home cooked". It all tasted like cardboard out of a plain, generic-brand, recently-expired cardboard box.
